Donna DeLaBriandais, a native of Sonoma County finds inspiration for her paintings while going out on location and creating landscape paintings on canvas or paper. Her favorite time to paint is late afternoon to sunset. The magic of light changing over the landscape inspired the Impressionist painters from France and later California artists to take their paints out of the studio and into nature. Donna has painted the landscape for twenty five years and enjoys following the footsteps of past artists. Sonoma County has an abundance of subjects just waiting to be painted. If you have a special place you would like painted, contact Donna for information.

I like the abstract quality to this landscape painting. It was painted on location (en plein air) just before sunset. |
Lavender Field
This quiet piece depicts the mood of sunset; my favorite time to paint! The earth is still, the sun has just moved beyond the mountain and a sense of calmness comes over me........

Yosemite Meadow 18X24"
This painting is from one of my many workshop trips to Yosemite. This painting was created from an autumn workshop when all the colors were in full bliss. The orange and red of fall foliage against the cool blues of the Merced river speaks of tranquility and quiet. |
River's Edge 24x24
My favorite place to paint is the river's edge. This painting was done on location during the autumn time of year. The water ran swift after a new rain. Time goes by without notice when painting on location. I become involved in the painting and the sights and sounds of rushing water. At some point during my painting session I realize I am no longer observing but I have become part of the landscape.

Spring Vineyard of Napa County in St. Helena, CA.
This softly blended oil painting of a vineyard path was painted on location near St. Helen, in Napa County. The fog was rolling over the hillside of Mount. St. Helana, which gave the area a glow of mist. I later finished the painting in my studio. 24"x48" |
Yellowstone Storm - 16x20"
Fields of bison are abundant and majestic as they roam the meadows and valleys. Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Yellowstone as winter has not set in and the days are beautiiful to hike, paint and wander.

Spring Lake Park - 16x20"
Spring Lake in Santa Rosa is a favorite place for me to paint and take my students to paint en plein air. I enjoy the changing seasons along the lake. Right now it is autumn and the trees are changing to gold and red within the many green trees. I am ready to take my kayak out into the lake for a morning of bliss. The sunrise is stunning! |
